  • Northern Territory

Since transitioning to a virtual format in 2020, Young ICT Explorers (YICTE) has enabled students from regional, rural, and remote communities to participate without the need for travel or venue‑based logistics.

Delivering the competition online—via Zoom or pre‑recorded video—has also significantly reduced operational costs, allowing us to continue allocating approximately $30,000 annually in cash prizes to recognise the top three teams in each category across every region or state.

This virtual model ensures the competition is no longer limited to metropolitan areas. Students from anywhere in Australia can now take part, share their ideas, and showcase their technological innovations. The online format broadens participation, promotes inclusivity, and encourages creativity from a diverse range of communities.

Whether students choose to present live or submit a pre‑recorded video, they have the flexibility to participate in a way that suits their circumstances. This approach ensures that all students—regardless of location—have an equal opportunity to engage, compete, and be celebrated. YICTE is now a truly nationwide competition, expanding its reach and impact more than ever before.
