Competition Details (for teachers)

Who can compete?

Schools in Queensland are invited to register groups of up to 4 students to participate in Young ICT Explorers by the 31st of March, 2010. All of the team members must be in the same age division (see Projects below) and multiple teams can enter. Each team is to produce their best project in one of the four subject areas (see projects below) and submit prior to the 4th of June, 2010. An Information Pack containing all necessary information to participate is available for download. Direction further questions via email to Sophie Galbraith.

Projects

There are three age divions for forming project teams:

  • years 4-6
  • years 7-9
  • years 10-12

Categories

Projects should come under one of the following subject areas:

  • Entertainment
  • Science
  • The Environment and Sustainability
  • Business

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to teams placed first, second, and third in each of the age categories.

  • 1st prize - iPod Touch for each team member and a perpetual trophy for your school, PLUS an iPad for the school
  • 2nd prize - iPod Nano for each team member
  • 3rd prize - $100 book voucher for each team member

Everyone who participates will also receive a certificate of achievement. Students invited to the judging event, you will also receive a showbag full of goodies.

What to Submit

Projects need to be submitted online along with a report describing the project. The recommended report outline will be available here in 2010 as a guide.

Judging

Each entry will be judged according to the following:

  • Creativity and Innovation: How unique and imaginative is the idea?
  • Quality and Completeness: How well does the project do what it was designed to do?
  • Communication and Presentation: How well did the team explain and present their project and report?

Shortlisted teams will be invited to a judging event in July where they present their project. Then the decision will be made and the winners will be announced!
